Mzaza – Children of the Road – Community Workshop

Exploring World Music with Mzaza

Local singers and instrumentalists of all ages are invited to Mzaza’s free workshop.
Born in France and of Spanish-Sephardic heritage, Pauline Maudy will facilitate an uplifting vocal workshop for beginners and experienced singers. Supported by Mzaza’s talented instrumentalists, you will get the opportunity to learn some French, Ladino and Spanish lyrics, the history of the songs and sing in harmony with the band. We’ll send you some lyrics in advance however, be assured that no prior experience singing in foreign languages is required.

If you play guitar, ukulele, violin, clarinet or even kazoo come and learn a couple of French and Balkan tunes with
Mzaza. Greta Kelly, on violin, John Robertson (Spanish guitar) and Jordan Stamos (percussion) will teach you some¬†unusual rhythms and ornaments. Bring along your favourite instrument and a recording device if you like. We’ll send you¬†some chord charts or some sheet music in advance, however reading music is not required – it’s common in many cultures to learn by ear.
